Sevilla

Spain is really amazing. In our experience people in Spain are particularly friendly, warm, and welcoming. We both speak a bit of Spanish, so it’s been fun to put that to use. Monisha is actually quite fluent in “Frannish,” so she’s been using that more than her Spanish; as our time in Spain has gone on, she’s been transitioning towards pure Spanish.

Our first city in Spain was Sevilla. We were only there for a day, but we made sure to do the most important thing there: eat tapas! Yeah…so we actually couldn’t get into the Alcazar because it was closed when we arrived and we left too early the next morning. However, we did walk around the city and find some beautiful places. Plaza de Espana in Seville is quite an impressive square; the periphery is a huge semicircular building with all of Spain’s major cities listed, and in the middle is a nice manmade lagoon with people rowing boats. Some of the people knew what they were doing and others…well, less so.

Right next to the Plaza was the main park in the city, Parque de Maria Luisa. There happened to be some sort of festival going on, so it was extremely lively! There were stands of all sorts: food, clothes, bags, granizado, etc. We explored the festival area, and then went deeper into the park which was beautiful. In the park we saw an awesome tree, which sparked Nolan’s nostalgic memories of climbing trees as a child. Exploring the nice parks in the different cities is one of the activities we enjoy most.

That night we went on a tapas bar crawl and got most of the specialty tapas of Sevilla. Damn Spanish food is good.
